Termite Damage Warning Signs Every Salisbury Homeowner Should Know
December 22, 2025 · by Prince Caldwell
TermitesThe reason termites are so expensive is the same reason they're easy to miss. A subterranean colony can feed on a Salisbury home's joists and subfloor for 2–5 years before a homeowner ever sees a visible sign. By the time damage is obvious, repair costs routinely reach five figures.
What to look for
- Mud tubes on the foundation, crawlspace piers, or exterior brick. Pencil-width brown tubes running from soil to wood. This is the #1 sign of an active colony.
- Discarded swarmer wings around windowsills, sliding doors, or exterior lights in early spring. Swarmers shed their wings after a flight; finding wings means a colony is near.
- Hollow-sounding wood when tapped. Termites eat wood from the inside out, leaving a thin veneer.
- Sagging or buckling floors, sticking doors or windows that weren't sticking a year ago.
- Bubbling or uneven paint on wood trim — often mistaken for water damage.
